Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia Mill.) is a perennial plant that belongs to the Lamiaceae family. It is a valuable ornamental, medicinal and cosmetic plant. It can even be used as a condiment. Herbal raw material is lavender flower (lavandulae flos) which contains essential oil, coumarins, flavonoids, tannins and phytosterols. Medicinal properties of the lavender flower are traditionally used to relieve stress symptoms, exhaustion and problems with falling asleep. Lavender baths are excellent for relaxing and toning the mind and body. It also shows some choleretic effects.
