Iceland moss (Cetraria Islandia L.) belongs to the Lichenophyta family. It is a conection (symbiosis) between fungus and algae. Herbal raw material of the plant is Lichenes Islandii thallus, which contains mucus compounds (lichenin, isolichenin), silicium acid, lichen acids, mineral salts. Products made from iceland moss can be used for irritation of oral cavity and throat, dry cough and loss of apetite. They can also be used in the cosmetic industry as a moisturising and softening ingredient.
