Hop Strobile
Humulus lupulus L.
Common hop strobile (Humulus lupulus L.) belongs to hemp family (Cannabaceae). It is found in the wild and it is cultivated for needs of pharmaceutical industry and food and beverage industry. Medicinal material is female inflorescences, commonly called hop strobiles. Material contains essential oil (main ingredient is humulene), tannins, polyphenols and resins. Processed products are used in benign states of mental stress and to aid sleep. To reinforce the therapeutic effect, it is often combined with other materials with similar function – lemon balm, passion flower and valerian. It is one of the components of CALMOMIX®. Another usage is to lessen hot flashes during menopause thanks to estrogenic effect of hop strobiles. For many years hop strobiles are used in cosmetology for haircare and relaxing baths.
