Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale F.H. Wigg) belongs to the Asteraceae family and it is commonly known as a weed in Poland, however it is also cultivated for medical purposes. Herbal raw material is dandelion root (Taraxaci radix) as well as dandelion herb (Taraxaci radix cum herba). Dandelion root contains bitter substances, terpenes, phytosterols, flavonoids, mineral salts (mainly potassium), inulin, plant mucus and phenolic acids. Products made of dandelion root can be used for problems with digestion (feeling of fullness, bloating, slowing down of digestion). They can also help with loos of apetite and to increase the amount of urine in the process of rinsing the urinary tract. It is not recommended for people with hypersensitivity to plants from Asteraceae family.
