Chicory Root

Chicory (Cichorium L.) belongs to Asteraceae family and can be naturally found in Europe in Mediterranean basin. Historically, it was cultivated by ancient Egyptians for food and beverage industry and as a medicinal product. It contains fiber fractions (inulin up to 40%) soluble in water, demonstrating prebiotic effects, bitter lactones (lactucin, lactucopicrin), phytosterols. It supports regulation of sugar levels in human body. It is an ingredient of grain coffee, used as a substitute of coffee cherries infusion.
